Fundamentals of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Course
This hybrid course is for general and breast surgeons who have never performed oncoplastic surgery. A review of fundamental elements of oncoplastic breast surgery will include applied anatomy, imaging, patient assessment and patient selection. The online didactic lectures will cover basic and often used oncoplastic techniques to improve the aesthetic outcome of partial mastectomies; incision placement, parenchymal closure, intramammary flaps, de-epithelialization, crescent mammaplasty, and donut mammoplasty. Office management pearls presented include assembling and developing a multidisciplinary team and building functional referral networks. During hands-on surgical skills lab, participants will perform skin marking, glandular displacement techniques for intramammary flaps, aesthetic incision placement, and periareolar, crescent and donut mammaplasty. Also, participants will learn simple techniques to improve lumpectomy results and management of excess skin, "dog-ears", and tissue during simple mastectomy without reconstruction.
