eDMEP (Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness)

Program Description
eDMEP is a fully online version of the Disaster Management Emergency Preparedness (DMEP) course. This course focuses on the hospital response to disaster. The overall goal is to motivate action and stimulate critical thinking related to getting Ready for disasters, Responding to them, and Recovering from them.
Includes Earthquake and Tornado triage scenarios. Additional scenarios to come in 2024.
Target Audience
The target audience for this course includes the members of the Disaster Committee at a hospital, which may include: Trauma surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, Nursing, Trauma Program Managers, Administrators, Support Staff, etc.
The Core Competencies addressed in eDMEP include:
- Create a disaster plan for your hospital, based on a hazard vulnerability analysis and inclusive of other departments.
- Test your disaster plan.
- Recognize an emerging disaster and respond by implementing your hospital disaster plan.
- Conduct reviews of your hospital’s performance after a disaster or drill and implement improvements to the disaster plan.
- Facilitate hospital and community recovery from a disaster.
Learning Objectives
After successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Prepare learners to become ready for, respond to, and recover from disasters, focused on mass casualty incidents.
- Prepare learners to contribute effectively to hospital disaster readiness.
- Prepare learners to participate in response, to include mass casualty triage.
