Improving Care for Minority Patients: Development of Disparity Sensitive Metrics (CC)

Session Description

This session will address the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD)-funded Metrics for Equitable Access and care in Surgery (MEASUR) project, a collaboration led by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) that includes Eastern Virginia Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the National Quality Forum, and University of California Los Angeles. Through research and expert consensus, MEASUR will identify and develop measures that capture disparities in access and across the five phases of surgical care, facilitating the development of targeted interventions to eradicate surgical disparities. The project’s vision is to ensure optimal access and equitable health care, for all surgical patients, in every setting, across the entire continuum of care. The goal of the session is to inform participants of the development of disparity-sensitive metrics and its effect on surgical practice and policy.
