Session Description

From the pipeline to the ivory tower, diversity matters. The workforce and our patient populations are becoming increasingly diverse. Diversity in leadership and the ability to communicate with competence to a heterogeneous group is critical to an organization’s success. It also increases the ability of an organization to adapt to changes. It has been shown that diverse groups produce better results and demonstrate higher productivity and more creative problem-solving abilities. Harnessing the power of diversity requires a culture of inclusivity and cultural competency so that individuals can feel heard and have a voice. Identification of systemic gaps in creating this environment is critical. We will highlight leaders in the surgical workforce who’ve built diverse and inclusive organizations.
