CC2019: Anastomotic Leaks: Are We Getting Closer to Understanding and Preventing Them?
Anastomotic leaks are a nemesis of colorectal surgery. Despite basic training in how to prevent anastomotic leaks, performing specific maneuvers intraoperatively, and testing the anastomosis, leaks still occur. Numerous new ideas and techniques in why anastomotic leaks may occur, ways to improve assessment over clinical grounds, and improved detection and treatment are now available
