ACS/APDS/ASE Fundamentals of Assessment for Surgical Faculty: Laparoscopy Technical Skills

Welcome to the ACS/APDS/ASE Fundamentals of Assessment for Surgical Faculty: Laparoscopy Technical Skills Pilot! The objective of this self-paced, interactive Module is to introduce concepts and tools for assessment, review the principles of providing good assessment and feedback, and consider how you can give depth and detail to your assessment.

In this course, learners will participate in three self-paced sections that cover the fundamentals of assessment and narrative feedback. Common assessment tools such as the Zwisch scale and Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) will be covered.  Frame of Reference Training will offer guided examples with expert raters.  The Assessment Practicum offers five opportunities for practice with real-world videos, craft narrative feedback, and identify effective feedback, select an appropriate Zwisch rating with expert commentary provided.  The goal of this module is to offer guided exercises assessing residents and medical students to easily incorporate assessment into everyday practice.

Conflict of Interest

Circumstances create a conflict of interest when an individual has an opportunity to affect CME content about products or services of an ineligible company with which he/she has a financial relationship.

The ACCME also requires that ACS manage any reported conflict and eliminate the potential for bias during the educational activity.  Any conflicts noted below have been managed to our satisfaction.
