Academy VGR: Identity Formation of Medical Students and Surgery Residents
The ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators Grand Rounds Series is pleased to present this virtual panel discussion with Dr. Mary Klingensmith, Dr. Douglas Smink, and Dr. Paula Termuhlen, moderated by Dr. Mohsen Shabahang, with welcoming remarks by Dr. Ajit K. Sachdeva. This Grand Rounds will focus on the concept of identity formation in the age of COVID. Identity formation is the process of internalizing values of a profession. The discussion will focus on factors associated with identity formation of learners in Surgery and how COVID may have affected that.

- Distinguish between strategies for supporting professional identity formation in surgical trainees prior to the pandemic and the challenges that have emerged as part of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Describe the effects of effectively forming a professional identity as a surgical trainee.

Conflict of Interest
Circumstances create a conflict of interest when an individual has an opportunity to affect CME content about products or services of an ineligible company with which he/she has a financial relationship.
