Community general and plastic surgeons remain involved in the treatment of minor-to-moderate-sized partial thickness burns that do not require resuscitation but may require operative procedures. The availability of new materials has made the outpatient management of burn wounds practicable and desirable. This session will review which patients are candidates for outpatient management, use of new dressings for outpatient management, outpatient pain management, and identification of complications of outpatient management. It will also discuss the increasing role of telemedicine in selection of patients appropriate for outpatient management.
