This program will focus on 10 of the most current and controversial issues in surgical oncology. It will include short, focused discussions on the evolving indications for surgery in melanoma patients in the era of effective immune therapies, the optimal use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer, the appropriate management of mucinous appendix tumors, and the latest data on how surgical stress and complications may negatively impact cancer recurrence. This program will also address updates in the management of retroperitoneal sarcomas and desmoid tumors, the management of positive sentinel nodes and the indications for surgery of the axilla after neoadjuvant therapy in breast cancer. Finally, the session will address the state of the evidence for minimally invasive surgery for rectal cancer, and what surgeons should know about molecular testing in colorectal cancer.
