Surgical Emergencies in the Cancer Patient (PA)
This session has been identified and designated as Credit to Address Regulatory Mandate for Palliative Care.
Session Description
Patients treated with cancer-directed therapy can experience severe complications that require surgical intervention. These can range from soft-tissue infections, to bowel obstructions, bleeding, and perforations. Depending on their disease and performance status, the management of these patients can be quite challenging. The purpose of this session is to provide an organized approach to these difficult situations from both a surgical oncology and acute care surgery perspective. In addition, ethical and palliative decision-making strategies will be covered.
