ACS Current Trends in General Surgery: GI Oncology
The American College of Surgeons Division of Education is pleased to present this online course, Current Trends in General Surgery: GI Oncology. This virtual course is designed to provide new knowledge or reinforce existing concepts for use in surgical practice, and to assist in preparation for examinations. It is a pragmatic review covering essential content areas in general surgery.

Target Audience
General Surgeons and other surgeons interested in the current practice of general surgery.
Learning Objectives
This educational activity is intended for general surgeons and others seeking a review of general surgery. The course is designed to provide new knowledge or reinforce existing concepts for use in surgical practice, and to assist in preparation for examinations. Learning objectives include:
- Extract new information on key topics in General Surgery such as the Alimentary Tract, Endocrine and Soft Tissue, Oncology, Perioperative Care, Skin and Breast, Surgical Critical Care, Trauma, Specialty Care, and Vascular Surgery.
- Articulate and use newly acquired knowledge directly in clinical settings to enhance patient care outcomes.
- Recognize specific areas for enhancing medical expertise and patient care practices, while also evolving personal improvement strategies.

Financial benefits are usually associated with roles such as employment, management position, independent contractor (including contracted research), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels, board membership, and other activities from which remuneration is received, or expected.
Conflict of Interest
Circumstances create a conflict of interest when an individual has an opportunity to affect CME content about products or services of an ineligible company with which he/she has a financial relationship.

Participants may only claim a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
To receive Self-Assessment Credit for this course, participants must complete the posttest with a passing score of at least 75%. Learners that do not achieve a 75% or greater on their first try are able to retake the posttest, until a passing score is obtained.
Specialty Board Recognition
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program.
