Management of the Nodal Basin in the Melanoma Patient (C)

This session has been identified and designated as Credit to Meet ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements for Cancer. Learn more about ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements.

Session Description

Sentinel node biopsy has been a standard of care for intermediate thickness melanoma for over a decade. While sentinel node positivity is a powerful negative prognostic predictor of survival, optimum treatment of sentinel node positive patients has become a focus of intense debate since the recent publication of two randomized trials (nodal basin dissection vs. observation). This session provides practicing general surgeons who care for melanoma patients with updates on status of nodal basin management on sentinel node positive patients and discusses the new frontier of adjuvant immunotherapy and targeted therapy. The session will end with discussion between audience and panel to explore the consensus of management strategy.
