There’s an App for That: How Technology Is Reshaping Pre- and Postoperative Outpatient Surgery

Session Description

We have seen exponential growth in technology solutions for patient engagement over the last few years, but what works? What’s all hype? Many surgeons are unaware of how technology can be leveraged to better educate their patients preoperatively leading to improved compliance with preoperative medication management, bowel prep, or diet restrictions. Or, how real-time feedback is being used to create clinical alerts to reduce readmissions, decrease postop phone calls, and even eliminate the need for postoperative appointments. In this world of rapidly changing technology this session will help providers understand: 1. how to leverage outpatient remote monitoring to improve postoperative care, 2. how one- and two-way communication solutions can decrease workload, and 3. how mobile technologies can improve patient outcomes like readmission rates.
