CC2019: Facial Nerve Injury and Repair (T)
This session has been identified and designated as Credit to Meet ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements for Trauma. Learn more about ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements.
The facial nerve is a critical nerve for animation and mastication. Injury to the facial nerve occurs through trauma or intentionally during salivary or skin cancer resection. Providing a patient with successful outcomes begins with accurate diagnosis, prognostication, and intervention. In this session, panelists will discuss different etiologies of facial nerve injury from the skull base, temporal bone, and peripheral nerve. Prognostication through electronic testing (EMG, ENOG) will be discussed. Timing of repair of injuries and state-of-the-art nerve repair and crossover grafting will be presented. Adequate time will be allotted for audience questions and interaction.
