With the increasing use of abdominal imaging, adrenal incidentalomas are frequently identified. Surgeons should be familiar with the initial assessment of an adrenal nodule, including functional assessment for pheochromocytoma, hyperaldosteronism and Cushing’s syndrome, suspicion for adrenocortical carcinoma, suspicion for adrenal metastasis in a patient with a history of cancer, indications for surgery, and the advantages of the different surgical approaches to adrenalectomy (open, transabdominal or retroperitoneoscopic laparoscopic, robotic).
