The purpose of this session is to educate the audience on the multiple facets of anticoagulants in the perioperative period. The presentation will be based on the guidelines on the topic that are currently being developed by the Best Practice Workgroup for the College. Components of the session will include an overview of the types of anticoagulants along with their reversal agents. In addition, the session will include stratification of risk based on the type of procedure and the indication for the anticoagulation. Moreover, it will incorporate how to bridge therapy around the time of operation. Finally, it will include the special consideration of the non-elective case.
