This Panel Session will review the indications for vena cava filter placement in patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and failure of anticoagulation, contraindication to anticoagulation, and prophylaxis in high-risk patients. The course will also review the current status of indications for inferior vena cava (IVC) filter removal. There will be a discussion of the current medico legal climate surrounding the use of IVC filters and their complications.
