Hot Topics Webcast Package
The Hot Topics Webcast Package covers four individual webcast sessions on Hot Topic Sessions from Clinical Congress 2018: General Surgery, Surgical Patient Safety, Surgical Oncology, and Health Care Reform.
Ten Hot Topics in General Surgery
In this popular session, the panelists review 10 of the hottest topics in general surgery selected from the ACS General Surgery Communities, recent surgery meetings, and the literature.
Ten Hot Topics in Surgical Patient Safety
This session will highlight 10 topics in patient safety, which are influenced by evolving best practices and emerging technologies with a major focus on perioperative harm prevention and risk-mitigation strategies. Topics include prehabilitation for surgery, venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention, eliminating health care-associated infection, unintended retained items, failure to rescue, and prevention of misidentification errors.
Ten Hot Topics in Surgical Oncology
This program will focus on 10 of the most current and controversial issues in surgical oncology. It will include short, focused discussions on the evolving indications for surgery in melanoma patients in the era of effective immune therapies, the optimal use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer, the appropriate management of mucinous appendix tumors, and the latest data on how surgical stress and complications may negatively impact cancer recurrence. This program will also address updates in the management of retroperitoneal sarcomas and desmoid tumors, the management of positive sentinel nodes and the indications for surgery of the axilla after neoadjuvant therapy in breast cancer. Finally, the session will address the state of the evidence for minimally invasive surgery for rectal cancer, and what surgeons should know about molecular testing in colorectal cancer.
Ten Hot Topics in Health Care Reform
