CC2019: More Than BRCA: Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer 2019 (BST)
This session has been identified and designated as Credit to Meet ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements for Breast. Learn more about ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements.
Numerous genetic panels are now available that test for various combinations of genes associated with hereditary breast and/or ovarian cancer. Some well-designed genetic panel tests include additional genes that have demonstrated clinical utility and moderate-to-high penetrance. However, other panel tests include a broader range of genes for which penetrance levels are intermediate and low and the clinical utility of testing is not yet established. This session will discuss the new American Society of Breast Surgeons consensus guidelines and the updated National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines regarding appropriateness of multi-gene testing and surgical recommendations regarding screening and prophylactic surgery.
