Intimate Partner Violence and the Surgical Workforce (DV)

This session has been identified and designated as Credit to Address Regulatory Mandate for Domestic Violence. Learn more about state regulatory mandates.

Session Description

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious, preventable public health problem that affects millions of Americans and occurs among all ages, races, and income levels. The term “intimate partner violence” includes physical violence, sexual violence, stalking, and/or psychological aggression by a current or former intimate partner. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that approximately 27.3 percent of women and 11.5 percent of men in the U.S. have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner. This panel will review accomplishments of the ACS Intimate Partner Violence Task Force and review the problem including risk factors in individual relationships and communities. Screening and prevention strategies will be discussed including interventions when a colleague is identified as at risk.
