It would seem to most surgeons that such an old and common disease as diverticulitis would have little controversy in management in 2018 but the management of acute and chronic diverticulitis changes steadily. This session will cover when and how to intervene in acute diverticulitis; when to plan elective resections which are more controversial than ever and will be discussed, including in the complex patient; and the controversy of lavage for complicated diverticulitis will be included, as well as means to “minimize the misery” of colostomy closures after Hartmann’s procedure for diverticulitis.
